Guide to the best mountain biking trails in the Meribel valley area
Méribel continually develops its mountain biking area attracting more and more visitors each year. As a result it is becoming known as a destination for mountain biking and has played host to a number of large, annual Mountain Bike events including the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
Méribel Bike Park offers something for riders of all abilities, from families and beginners to seasoned professionals, including World Cup competitors. The park features dedicated downhill tracks, enduro and cross-country trails, as well as 4x4 (fire road) tracks that are ideal for novices and are shared with hikers. All trails are marked according to the standards of the French Cycling Federation (FFC), ensuring you always know the difficulty level, ranging from easy green and blue trails to the more challenging red and black routes.
For those looking to extend their ride, Méribel links to even more trails in the neighbouring Belleville Valley (Val Thorens and Les Menuires) and Courchevel Valley, increasing the total network to around 250km. To access Val Thorens, Les Menuires, and St Martin de Belleville, take the Tougnette lift to the top and cross into the valley. You can return to Méribel the same way via the St Martin lift or, for a longer descent, continue up the valley to the top of the Bruyères gondola and ride back into Méribel above Mottaret.
If you wish to explore the Courchevel Valley, take the Pas du Lac lift to the top and cross over from the summit of the Saulire. To return to Méribel, you will need to ascend back up the Saulire before heading down.
Please be aware that certain routes finishing in Les Allues and Brides-les-Bains may require a bus uplift to return. It’s also essential to check lift schedules in advance to avoid getting stranded in one of the neighbouring valleys.
