Pack the suncream & water for a sunny week ahead in Meribel
The sun is still shining brightly over Meribel and it isn’t showing any signs of stopping! I left my car in the sun for about an hour the other day and the temperature gauge showed 24 degrees!
Do not pretend like the sun in the mountains is different to the beach. Sun reflecting off the snow is very strong and high altitudes make you a lot more prone to dehydration. Note that a pint of beer at lunch does not count as hydration! Make sure you drink lots of water and pile on the sun cream so you can stay fit for your weeks skiing.
If you feel like you need a bit of a challenge this holiday the black Bosses run in Meribel that goes down under the Plan de L’Homme chair has been pisted and is no longer covered in moguls if that’s not your thing! It makes a nice ski first thing or even later in the day as it doesn’t get busy and so isn’t covered in lumps of slush like other runs. If you do really enjoy the moguls then don’t worry, there are still plenty underneath the Tougnette telecabine!
Although the Sochi Winter Olympics may be over don’t forget the the Paralympics are happening right now! Britain has a great Alpine team.
I was lucky enough to train with them in New Zealand last summer and watching them skiing is amazing. Jade Etherington and her guide Caroline Powell have already taken a Silver and Bronze Medal in the Downhill and Super G and Kelly Gallagher and her guide, Charlotte Evans, topped the Super G podium making history and winning Britain’s first ever Winter Paralympic gold!
