The main draw for people coming to Meribel in winter is, of course, skiing and snowboarding in the vast Meribel and Three Valleys area.

ESF Snowshoe Walks, Meribel

1. Snowshoe walks

Strap on your snowshoes and discover the Meribel trails with a qualified instructor.

Since its creation in 1945 by a group of instructors from the valley, this ski school has grown to become one of the largest in France. All 450 instructors are professionals, trained at the National School of Skiing and Alpinism in Chamonix, with extensive knowledge of the Méribel and Three Valleys ski area and a passion for sharing the mountains with you.

You can join a group or book a private snowshoe outing with one of their professional, English-speaking instructors. Along the way, you’ll learn how to snowshoe while discovering the local flora and fauna in Méribel.

For an extra-special experience, they also offer night-time snowshoeing under the moonlight, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful alpine landscape in a truly magical setting.

2. Helicopter tours

A fantastic way to see the resort with your friends and family and a great way to entertain any non-skiers in your group.

Experience the beauty of the mountains by taking an amazing tour in a helicopter to view stunning, remote locations. Get a birdseye view of the Espace Killy and Three Valleys ski domains and their nature reserves as well as the Mont Blanc Valley.

You can choose a 10 minute, 30 minute or 60 minute flight

  • 10 minute heli scenic tour – Depart from your resort and circle the parameter of the nature reserve, with views around your resort and surrounding mountains.
  • 30 minute heli scenic tour – Departing from your local resort and adventuring further afield to surrounding glaciers, resorts and national parks.
  • 60 minute heli scenic tour – Not only is this a fantastic experience giving you time to really take in the moment and the scenery, it allows us to fly low over some simply stunning glaciers and down to the base of Mont Blanc for a tour of this awe inspiring mountain range before completing a loop of Italy and heading back into France.

3. Heliskiing/boarding

For backcountry adventures, this independent company operates in and around the following three heliski destinations: Valgrisenche, The Courmayeur Valley and the Col de Petit St Bernard Pass. They have pioneered 32 drop zones within these three broad valley regions giving you a huge choice of terrain, snow conditions and mountain orientation to ensure you have a day best suited to your ability and preferences.

You can choose to have one, two or three drops depending on your budget, fitness ability and experience!

  • One drop heliski – For those skiers and snowboarders who are looking to try heliskiing for the first time or those who are looking for a quick heliski hit away from the crowds without breaking the bank.
  • Two drop heliski – Two drops for those that have a little more fitness, off piste experience and money to spend.
  • Three drop heliski – Three longer flights allow you to get higher and further into the backcountry to find THE best snow and best terrain far away from lifts, roads and other people.

There is no limit in place for the number of people that can book, however, generally there are four clients per helicopter plus a guide. Their guides are happy to supply you with any of the equipment needed to make sure you have the perfect experience. They also provide you with transceivers, shovels and probes.

Laurence is a certified mountain leader, who enjoys taking clients away from the busy pistes and spicing up your ski holiday with a guided snowshoeing trip.

No experience needed: If you can walk, you can snowshoe!

This is a great opportunity to explore beautiful, remote parts of the mountain and take in the unspoilt scenery.

Laurence will pick you up at your hotel or chalet, where you will set off together. She can tailor the walks to suit your needs or timings, so if you have a question please ask!

Tea, cookies, snowshoes, poles, and transport are provided.

Please note that Laurence only runs private group snowshoe trips for one to four people, rather than open tours. You can join her for a morning, afternoon or full day walk.
