Meribel Apres Ski Report: 8th January 2015

Lots of entertainment coming up in the week ahead

Christmas and New Year are out of the way, Russian Christmas is done and dusted, workers on and off the mountain all over the Three Valleys have found their groove and things are finally running like clockwork.

The slopes are remarkably smooth out there and there is some world class skiing to be had, despite what you might have heard from all the naysayers. Ignore them - the mountain is beautiful!

As always there is plenty of entertainment scheduled over the next week or so including some brand new events hitting Meribel for the very first time. Here’s my round up of some of the best.

Friday afternoon, a free, family friendly street party will be taking place in the town square just outside of the Tourist Office. Rock and Roll group, “The 45s” are in charge of entertainment and there will be free hot drinks for all. It all kicks off at 4.30pm.

If you’ve enjoyed the music and think you’d be better placed on the other side of the microphone, why not head over to the Bowling Alley in the Olympic Centre where, along with bowling, there will be a ‘karaoke party’ taking place in the evening.

This weekend, there is a freestyle contest taking place in Meribel-Mottaret at the mogul slope so if you fancy going to check out how the pros do it, head to Mottaret on Saturday or Sunday.

While you are there, you can also try and perfect those airborne tricks you have been trying to nail on the giant airbag. Or, if you aren’t fussed about hitting that backflip, just hurl yourself over the ramp on a rubber ring.

Next Sunday (18th January) a very special event is coming to Meribel for the first time. ‘Color Me Rad’ is a 5km race with a difference. On snow for the very first time, competitors will race their way through a course, stopping off at 4 different stations along the way to stock up on colourful powder to pelt each other with. These type of events have proven very popular in city settings around the world so don’t miss out on the first ever opportunity to paint the slopes this winter!

Finally, my après pick of the week is the wonderful Daisy B and Tom this Saturday at The Rond Point. Fun and interesting takes on all kinds of different tunes, they are the perfect accompaniment to a sun kissed outdoor après session or a cosy indoor party away from the falling snow – lets hope it’s the latter!
