Things to do & see this week in Meribel
It’s been a beautiful week of sunshine here in Meribel. We’re due a little smattering of snow followed by yet more sun and the slopes are in prime condition so there really is a lot to be cheerful about.

Meribel Auditorium is an unexpected surprise
On Tuesday night I had the pleasure of going to the Meribel Auditorium for the first time ever. Upon entering the venue I was surprised on a number of levels:
A day on the airbag leaves seasonnaires feeling satisfyingly deflated
This week myself and my colleagues were treated by ski and board lesson company ‘Magic in Motion’ to a day of throwing ourselves at high speed off a ramp onto a huge airbag. Near to the top of the Rhodos lift and a short ski down from the top of Altiport is the location of Magic’s ‘Big Air Bag’.

Another great week of après, live music and events has passed, as the temperatures stay cool around Meribel in hope for some more January snowfall. Waving goodbye to the week that was, we enter week seven of the season and celebrate our last week of the month as February fast approaches. Spring time entertainment in Meribel this week
Spring is here, apparently. Although we had plenty of time to enjoy the sunshine last week, it appears the mountains have not yet given up on winter.
The official start of the season is upon us
It may not feel quite like a French ski resort just yet with these warm winter days and the patchy white mountain tops above, but this won’t stop Meribel on officially beginning the 2016-2017 winter ski season.
A Taste of What’s To Come in Meribel this season
The temperature has dropped, the snow cannons have been working overtime – as have the pisteurs - busily readying the slopes for a delayed resort opening. Seasonaires the resort over are exchanging nervous glances with fake smiles plastered over their faces, hiding the question on everyone’s minds. Are we ever going to get a dump!?

Winding down and getting comfy...
With only a couple of weeks left of the season, this is the perfect time to rush out and do all of those things that you said you were going to do five months ago before you discovered Mutzig. Over the last week I have done exactly that by eating in new restaurants, skiing in new areas and drinking in new bars. I even took every single ski lift in Meribel (there are 40 of them) in just one day, resulting in a very sunburned nose, but that is another report entirely.

I haven't done as much 'research' for this report over the last week and I am sorry. I work as a chalet host, and how much I go out during a week correlates directly with how generous my guests were in the tip department the previous week. Unfortunately last week my group of 10 drunken blokes celebrating a week long stag party were too hungover on transfer day to remember to leave a tip. Despite the fact that they made twice the amount of mess of a normal guest and that I actually spent the week cutting one particular guests food into bite sized chunks and doing up his coat and shoe laces like a small child (he had dislocated his shoulder).
Meribel comes back to life
Heavy snow on Thursday, torrential rain on Friday and yet more snow on Saturday created a slush sandwich on the mountain leaving us with an avalanche warning level of 5 as lifts opened on Saturday for the first big wave of guests to resort. Fortunately most of the lower lifts remained open and everyone seemed to have a great first day out on the mountain.

A Native American Adventure
This week I became a member of a new tribe. The tribe consisted of some postmen, some chalet hosts and some ski bums and the leader of our tribe was named "Chief 2Bite" due to his ferocious appetite and incredible ability to be able to eat a Mottaret Mountain Burger in just two bites.
