Group Ski Lessons Mottaret

Group lessons by the official and largest French ski and snowboard school

Group lessons offer a friendly way to learn skiing, snowboarding and other snow sports in Méribel, with 348 qualified instructors providing tuition in English and other languages. From little children taking their first steps on snow to teenagers and adults looking to improve their technique, you can develop your skills alongside others at a similar level. The French ski-level system provides a structured approach to learning, helping you choose suitable lessons, build confidence and track your progress.

Group lessons for all ages and abilities

Group lessons in Méribel cater for little children, children, teenagers and adults, with different courses to suit their age, experience and ability. Younger children can discover skiing through fun, age-appropriate activities, while older children and adults can learn the basics, improve their technique or progress towards more advanced skiing.

For little ones, the ski school offers early-years activities and beginner ski lessons, including Club Piou-Piou for young children. Children can progress through the recognised ski levels, with courses ranging from beginner tuition to more advanced training, including Base Camp, Team Kids, competition courses and freestyle skiing.

Teenagers aged thirteen and over can choose beginner lessons or classes for intermediate and advanced skiers, alongside options such as Base Camp, Team Teens, competition training and freestyle. Adults can also join beginner or intermediate and advanced group lessons, with classes organised according to ability.

Alongside skiing, group snowboard lessons are available, with options for different ages and experience levels. There are also other activities to discover, including Nordic skiing and specialist snow sports, depending on the course and availability.

English-speaking ski instructors

If you're visiting from the UK, being able to learn in English makes it easier to follow instructions, ask questions and get useful feedback. Learning in a group also gives you the chance to share the experience with other skiers at a similar level, practise new skills together and build confidence on the slopes.

The ski school's multilingual instructors teach in English and other languages, helping welcome visitors from different countries. With their knowledge of the local mountain environment, they can also help you develop your skills and make the most of the varied terrain across the Three Valleys ski area.

Understanding the French ski-level system

French ski instruction follows a structured progression, with recognised stages and assessments to help you develop your skills step by step. Understanding the system can help you choose the right group lesson and gives you clear goals to work towards throughout your time on the slopes.

For younger children, the early stages include Piou-Piou, followed by Ourson, Flocon and the different Étoile levels, progressing through to Étoile d'Or. These stages help children develop their balance, control and confidence as they become more independent on their skis.

Older children and teenagers can continue through the recognised levels, with more advanced courses available for skiers who have achieved the required standards. Adults can join beginner lessons or progress through the Class 1 to Class 4 levels, depending on their experience. Snowboarders follow their own progression, with courses suited to different abilities.

You don't need to be familiar with the French system before booking. When choosing a group, consider your previous experience and the skills you've already achieved. If your child has taken lessons elsewhere, it's worth mentioning their previous levels or badges when booking, so the ski school can help identify a suitable class.

Make the most of your time on the slopes

Group lessons are available in a range of formats, with courses typically running over five or six sessions from Sunday or Monday to Friday. Depending on the lesson, you can choose morning, afternoon or full-day tuition, with options varying according to age, ability and course.

For children, supervised lunch arrangements are available with selected courses, which can make organising your family's time on the mountain easier. Some courses focus on particular goals, from building confidence and improving technique to developing freestyle skills or preparing for competition.

Whether you're booking your child's first ski lessons, helping a teenager take their skiing further or looking to improve your own technique, group lessons offer a structured and sociable way to develop your skills and enjoy your ski holiday in Méribel.
