The Evolution Bad Boy Burger Review

Testing out one of Meribel's best burgers...

By Jack Franks, Updated

A couple of weeks ago I sat down and had a long hard think about burgers. I thought about good burgers (no, not the 1997 Nickelodeon side splitter starring Kenan and Kel) and I thought about bad burgers and I put together a list of some of my favourites in Meribel.

I submitted the article and it went live. I went to bed.

When I woke up the next morning I got a small insight into what it must be like to be a Kardashian. FIFTY-SIX NOTIFICATIONS across various social media platforms. FIFTY-SIX! Ladies and gentlemen: I had gone viral.

It appeared I had made an unforgivable omission in my “Five Best Burgers” write up.

Next thing I knew the press was on the phone, the locals were furious and Anonymous were threatening to launch a full-scale cyber attack on Merinet.com.

Before I even had a chance to respond, my article was changed to include a review of the famous “BAD BOY BURGER” from Evolution.

But there was a problem with this. I had never eaten a Bad Boy Burger from Evolution. I had sampled their popular Sunday roast dinner on numerous occasions and very much enjoyed it, but never the burger.

All that was about to change. On Tuesday night I took my girlfriend and my visiting parents to ‘Evos’ to help me decide once and for all whether all the fuss was warranted.

We each ordered a beer from a very friendly waitress. Three Peronis and a Grolsch. It was an early sitting so it was fairly quiet but the atmosphere was pleasant. The waitress brought over four menus – I didn’t even look, I knew what I was ordering.

My Dad and I went for the 'Bad Boy' and the girls each had an 'Evo Burger'. Simply served on a wooden board with salad and some chunky homemade chips; they were a sight for sore eyes.

The Bad Boy consists of a meaty homemade burger with cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and jalapenos. Evo burger comes with cured ham, hollandaise sauce and caramelized red onions.

Twenty blissful minutes later and four empty wooden boards sat in front of us.

My father, a hearty-food loving meat and no veg kind of guy, said, “Not too sure about all the rabbit food but that was a really really good burger. “

My mother, slightly more adventurous in the food department, said, “Really tasty burger, homemade chips were great and I loved the rabbit food.”

My girlfriend also loved the burger and has asked several times since when we are going back for another.

So, I am happy to put my hands up and say that to omit Evolution from my original article was an oversight to say the least. It was a damn good burger. The best in Meribel?

I’m not sure… I’ll just have to go back down next week to have another one to help make my mind up.
