What's on For Families This Christmas & New Year

Have yourself a Meri little Christmas

Imprint
By Jack Franks, Updated

Caroling, fireworks and where to be if you want to spot Santa himself, we’ve gathered together the best family friendly Christmas fun that Meribel has to offer.

If you’d like to start festivities early then head to the Ice Rink on Wednesday 23rd at 19:30. Grab a mulled wine and get comfortable because Meribel Ice Skating club will be putting on their annual gala performance. Entry is €2 and the display runs until 21:30.

How about starting even earlier? This Wednesday you have a chance to board the Tougnette lift and head up the mountain before anyone else and enjoy a continental breakfast at Les Pierres Plates restaurant above Mottaret. Following this, you will join ski patrol in making the first tracks of the day back down to the Chaudanne. The ‘First Tracks’ experience starts at 08:10. For more info call +33 4 79 00 42 38.

Christmas eve brings with it plenty of fun activities up on the slopes geared towards the little ones. From 13:00 to 16:30 there will be fun and games on the ‘Inuits Piste’ and if you are lucky you might even get to pet a husky dog.

Over on the ‘Dragon de l’Altai’ piste there will be live ice sculpture demonstrations.

Later on, the bells really start jingling and Father Christmas will be making appearances in resort. Gather in the Chaudanne at 16:30 where Mr Claus will be arriving on his sleigh with, weirdly, a host of magical water creatures.

At 17:00 the big man will arrive in Mottaret at the snow front bringing with him a whole host of helpers armed with free mulled wine, hot chocolate and sweets for all. Then, at 17:15 there will be a torchlit descent and fireworks.

You might want to choose to celebrate in either Meribel or Mottaret or you are going to run out of Christmas cheer fast running between the two. Next up, back down in Meribel there is a carol concert in front of the Tourist Office at 17:30. More hot drinks for all followed by a kid friendly Christmas entertainment show in the same spot at 18:30.

Finally, before you head home to set some mince pies and carrots out by the fireplace, head down to the ice rink at 19:00 for Christmas Eve Mass. Free and open to all.

If you missed Santa on Christmas Eve, fear not as he will be making a final visit to the Tourism Office in Meribel from 16:30 until 18:30 so this is the perfect opportunity to come down and thank him for your gifts. Or, if you aren’t happy with what you’ve been given, bring your receipt with you and see if you can’t trade it in for something else..

Happy Christmas!
