La Taiga restaurant review

Great food, wine & cocktails with lively après ski

Location
La Tania
Imprint
By Rachel Wilson, Updated

La Taiga is a popular restaurant and bar in La Tania that serves both traditional Savoyard and modern French cuisine. It is the sister restaurant to Pub Le Ski Lodge, offering a more sophisticated food and cocktail menu.

The restaurant is ideal for a relaxed dining experience. It is a great for large group bookings yet cosy enough for a romantic dinner for two. My favourite dish from here is the Savoyard speciality raclette.

La Taiga restaurant review style of cuisine

Originally from Switzerland, raclette cheese is served with a special machine that melts it onto a plate. It is enjoyed traditionally with special raclette potatoes and cured meats, however, La Taiga also offer a vegetarian option with roast vegetables and lots of fresh salad. There is a minimum requirement of two people for this dish, as well as for the fondue and the hot rock.

The vegetarian raclette costs €20.50 per person and this includes salad and raclette potatoes. I also ordered a side of chips for €6 too as there is nothing better than chips and fancy cheese! The menu is quite large offering a good vegetarian selection, seafood dishes, steaks, Savoyard specials and big salads. They also have very good ‘Menu du Skieur’ for lunch, which is €12 for two courses or €18 for three courses.

The service is extremely good and well organised in the restaurant as it can get very busy. Both seasonal workers and holiday makers enjoy dining at this restaurant so make sure you book a table in advance, especially if you are wanting to book for the Wednesday which is usually the chalet day off. There are two sittings on Wednesdays; one at 19.30 and the latter at 21.00.

On Wednesdays, there is always a good atmosphere as there is a live music playing downstairs in the cocktail bar starting at 22.00. Post dinner you can grab yourself a cocktail and have a dance or you can relax on the leather sofas next to the fire. There are also live après sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays and Open Mic on Friday night. If you are dropping by for lunch or après then there is a large outdoor decking with tables for soaking up the sunshine.

La Taiga restaurant review exterior

The outside of the restaurant looks like a ski chalet and inside they have kept the stone and wood character, with a cosy lounge area with a huge Scandinavian poele fireplace downstairs in the bar. The upstairs section is dedicated to the restaurant and they have tables to cater for up to twenty people.

This restaurant is perfect for groups of friends, families and couples wanting an authentic French Savoyard experience or other excellent French cuisine. I will visit this restaurant again due to its variety of vegetarian choices and the friendly, attentive staff.

La Taiga is located opposite the free bus stop in La Tania, making it very easy to find if you are coming from other parts of Courchevel. There are also two large free car parks in La Tania and the restaurant is situated between the two. It is open every day throughout December to April for lunch, coffees, après and evening meals. Make an advance booking to avoid disappointment.
