Meribel Snow Report: 24th March 2015

Hob-nobbing with Torah Bright at the DC Invasion

featured in Snow report Author Gemma Hunt, Meribel Reporter Updated

Having been asked to report on Meribel conditions, normally being a Valthonet reporter, I headed over to ‘the other side’ today and I was pretty glad that I did!

I noticed this morning that the DC Invasion’ was taking place at Area 43 so thought I’d pop over to see what was going on. The increase in snowboarders on pistes and lifts as I neared the top of Mottaret was a good indicator that there was not just your normal folk out and about today.

Some of the top riders are over in Meribel for the event and I was lucky enough to meet Torah Bright at the half pipe and had a quick chat in between runs (Torah’s, not mine!) It is Torah’s first visit over to Meribel and she said that she was really pleased with conditions this week. Here with the Roxy Crew to ride and shoot, it was great to see Torah and her team trying to capture the shot, showing that even the professionals don’t get it right every time! Torah said the crew are really enjoying their stay in Meribel and when I asked what she thought of Meribel, she said she was having a great time and the signature Torah smile seemed to say it all!

Area 43 is located just under the Plattieres lift that comes out of Meribel Mottaret. The event is open to all and there was some serious talent out there today. I was not brave enough to give it a shot but stood and watched as people of all ages including some very mini snowboarders even showed me how it was done! It was a very chilled-out event and I would definitely recommend heading over if you are staying in Meribel.

I snowboarded over there from St Martin down the lovely wide red Mouflon run from the top of Plattieres. At around 10.30am the piste was in great condition and I had a fantastic run down. I have to say that I think Torah’s expertise must have rubbed off on me as my run home to St Martin was way better than my usual snowboarding!

The best of the conditions have definitely been at the beginning of the week. With blue skies this morning and the sign of cloud coming in this afternoon. There is snow forecast for tomorrow evening into Thursday and the sun is then peeking out again to end the week on Friday. Temperatures are definitely cooler than they have been which is really helping to maintain snow conditions.

So if you want to ski or board with the professionals then get yourself over to DC Area 43, not a chance that you get on every ski holiday! [24th & 25th March].
