Meribel Snow Report: 11th April 2014

By Robin Deering, Updated

The sunny weather took the day off on Monday and mist lay low across the piste and rain fell very heavily. Luckily the weather is now back to it's sunny self. The forecast is predicted to change this weekend with very light rain in the resort but nothing that will threaten your skiing holiday too much!

The British Championships are now over and the next big racing event are the Scottish Championships in Courchevel. They will be running until Saturday on the Courchevel 1850 Stade.

There is still a good snow coverage on all the runs in Meribel. The snow is pretty soft in the morning as temperatures aren't dropping below freezing overnight. A thin layer of hard snow forms on the top of the snow overnight, creating a thin crust. However, as soon as the sun hits the slope the snow turns pretty soft.

As a racer, we have a way to sort out this slush issue so we can still race safely. The secret is salt! We spread salt on the course as soon as the snow gets soft. The salt absorbs all the moisture in the snow. It works better the hotter it is!
