Generally speaking, most shops will open between 8am and 9pm, closing at 12am for a lunch break until around 3pm. They then reopen until between 7pm and 8pm. Most shops in the resort remain open 7 days a week during the winter and summer seasons, including Christmas, New Year and other bank holidays. During peak season some shops may remain open throughout the day without stopping for lunch. During the interseason periods of spring and autumn many shops in Meribel and Mottaret close. A useful list of 'Interseason openings' is available from the Tourist Office during these periods with details of all shops, services and restaurants which remain open. In France each region has to schedule its sales, so that all the shops in resort drop their prices at the same time. The sales generally start at the end of March and this is a great time to find a bargain on equipment or clothing. There are several mini-supermarkets in both Méribel and Mottaret, and one large supermarket, Spar, in Méribel (opposite the chapel in Mussillon). Méribel has a good selection of shops and boutiques, to find out where to go for fashion, sports equipment, food and more please read our Méribel Shopping Guide.
